The CEO of People Group and judge of Shark Tank India, Anupam Mittal, compared Google to the “Digital East India Company” during the court dispute over its latest user choice billing system. Mittal claimed that Google’s new payment policies disregarded Indian law and violated antitrust guidelines made by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in October 2022. in October 2022, CCI found Google guilty of abusing its dominant position in the market for Android smartphones and of its Play Store regulations.

To comply with the antitrust guidelines given by the CCI, Google implemented new standards early this year. These revisions led to the creation of the new user choice billing system. The Delhi High Court received a petition earlier this month, which was filed by the policy think tank ADIF to put the new policy on hold while the high court conducts an in-depth inquiry into a separate CCI complaint alleging antitrust violations.
Mittal likened the Google commission charge to the tax that Indian farmers had to pay during the colonial era. He requested the Prime Minister’s Office, the judiciary, and the media to pay attention to the situation.

Anupam Mittal, disclosed that Google officials had told his company to adhere to the new payment policy by April 26 or its apps would be deleted from the Play Store. Several companies, including Shaadi.com, Makaan, and Mauj, are owned by the People Group. Anupam Mittal further added that he has declared that his company would not give up easily in this battle against Google’s new user choice payment scheme, which he thinks is illegal.
