Qualcomm, a leading chip manufacturer, has introduced a chip called the Snapdragon Elite X for Microsoft Windows-based laptops. This new chip is positioned to rival Apple’s M-series chips, claiming superior performance in certain tasks. Scheduled for release in laptops next year, the Snapdragon Elite X has been meticulously redesigned to excel in artificial intelligence operations such as email summarization, text generation, and image creation.
This announcement follows reports that Microsoft has been encouraging tech giants like Qualcomm, Nvidia, and Advanced Micro Devices to develop chips capable of handling a range of new AI features within Windows, the world’s most popular PC operating system.

A Challenge to Apple’s Dominance
Qualcomm is poised to become the first competitor capable of challenging Apple, which has significantly expanded its market share in the laptop and desktop computer market since introducing custom-designed chips in 2020.
With the Snapdragon Elite X, the company is confident that Windows-powered laptops equipped with its chips will finally have the potential to outperform Mac computers using Apple’s M-series chips.
Qualcomm’s claims about the Snapdragon Elite X are remarkable. It is said to outperform Apple’s M2 Max chip in specific tasks while being more energy-efficient than both Apple and Intel PC chips. One of the standout features of this chip is its ability to handle artificial intelligence models with 13 billion parameters, indicating a high level of sophistication in AI systems used for generating text and images.
