Elon Musk had always been opposed to the latest development at Open AI. He raised concerns about Sam Altman’s ChatGPT’s latest iteration. Having questioned Sam’s integrity earlier of turning the AI venture into for-profit, Elon Musk, a former investor in OpenAI never leaves an opportunity to ridicule AI. He seemed quite miffed over Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI to leverage ChatGPT. Despite his ‘concerning’ remark over AI, the billionaire himself launched his AI venture X dot AI. Incorporated in Nevada on March 9th, 2023, the company bears the hallmark ‘X’ of its core brand. And look how Sam Altman reacted to the news –

Ironically, Elon Musk had been one of the signatories of the ‘Pause Giant AI Experiments’ open letter by Future of Life Institute. It was signed by luminaries like Steve Wozniak, Yuval Noval Harari, several CEOs, leading AI experts, and policy makers. The letter released on March 22, 2023, called for an immediate halt on all sorts of development across the AI industry. It specifically urged that for the next 6 months all AI labs should immediately pause training their artificial intelligence system more powerful than ChatGPT-4. The foundation also released a ‘Policymaking for Pause’ with 7 policies. It included mandatory third party auditing and certification and regulations in the industry, besides expanding funds for AI safety research.

All along, there had been news of development of ChatGPT-5. When probed in a recent talk at an MIT event, Sam Altman’s reaction was not in consensus with the signatories of the open letter. The OpenAI founder stated that the letter lacked the technical nuances on where we need to make a stop. He however remarked that there are parts of the letter he does agree with. Sam also said that there have been no works on ChatGPT-5 either.
