Business

Two of the biggest smartphone brands in India, OnePlus and Samsung, have just released their latest foldable phones: the OnePlus Open and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Both phones offer a unique foldable design, but they have different strengths and weaknesses. So, which one should you buy?

Display

One of the most important aspects of a foldable phone is its display. Both the OnePlus Open and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 have large, 7.6-inch AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates. However, the OnePlus Open has a few advantages in this area. First, its display is brighter, with a peak brightness of 2,800 nits. This means that it will be easier to use outdoors in direct sunlight. Second, the OnePlus Open has a near-invisible crease, while the crease on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is still noticeable.

Performance

Both phones are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, so you can expect similar performance from both. However, the OnePlus Open has a slight edge in terms of RAM, with 16GB compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s 12GB. This means that the OnePlus Open will be able to handle more demanding tasks, such as multitasking and gaming, with ease.

Camera

OnePlus incorporates a 48MP optically stabilized sensor and a 48MP electronically stabilized ultrawide camera. Notably, it includes a 64MP periscope-style telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom, in-sensor 6x zoom, and 120x digital zoom.

In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 50MP telephoto camera, a 10MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical and 30x digital zoom. The OnePlus Open’s folded lens system ensures higher zoom capabilities. While Samsung’s foldable boasts a 10MP front camera and a 4MP under-display camera, the latter’s innovation affects image quality, resulting in softer, reconstructed images.

Battery life

The OnePlus Open has a slightly larger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold 5, with a capacity of 4800mAh compared to 4400mAh. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a more efficient processor, so it is likely that the battery life will be similar on both phones.

Price

The OnePlus Open is significantly more affordable than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Currently, it is available for Rs 139,999, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a price tag of Rs 154,999. This makes the OnePlus Open a great option for budget-minded consumers who want to experience the foldable phone revolution.

Ultimately, your choice between the two will depend on your priorities, with the OnePlus Open offering excellent value for those seeking a feature-rich foldable phone without breaking the bank.
