Musk attended the banquet hosted by Joe Biden to welcome President Xi. During their brief meeting, the Chinese leader expressed support for Tesla’s growth in China. Musk, in turn, thanked President Xi for China’s advancements in the new energy vehicle sector. The meeting recognized the tenth anniversary of Tesla’s foray into the Chinese market and highlighted the significance of the Shanghai Super Factory, Tesla’s crucial global production base and export center.
Earlier this year, Musk visited China and the Shanghai Gigafactory, Tesla’s largest car manufacturing plant outside the United States. The meeting between Musk and President Xi took place amid China’s economic slowdown, the U.S. initiative to “de-risk” some American supply chains away from China, and growing uncertainty due to China’s expanding security regulations.
The state dinner was attended by prominent executives like Apple’s Tim Cook, BlackRock’s Laurence Fink, and Pfizer’s Albert Bourla. The banquet provided a platform for these companies to engage directly with Xi. The event attracted nearly 400 participants, including government officials and academics. The discussions covered various topics, emphasizing the crucial role of China in the global economy and the collaboration between Chinese leadership and influential figures from U.S. corporations. The Chinese president expressed China’s desire to be friends with the US and not engage in cold wars.
