Just a week after the launch of the new iPhone 15 series, rumours are already swirling about Apple’s upcoming flagship series for the next year, the iPhone 16 Pro. What’s particularly intriguing is that this year, Apple opted not to equip the smaller 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro with a 5X optical zoom camera, citing space limitations. Instead, it retained the same 3X telephoto lens found in the previous year’s Pro models. However, all signs suggest that this could see a transformation in the coming year.

To recap, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is equipped with a tetraprism lens, enabling a remarkable 5X optical zoom capability and an impressive 25X digital zoom range using its 12MP sensor. This advanced camera setup occupies significantly more space compared to the 3X telephoto module, which is why Apple limited its availability to the 6.7-inch model.

In a recent report by the dependable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it’s indicated that even the smaller iPhone 16 Pro will incorporate a tetraprism lens into its camera setup. While specific details about the optical zoom capabilities were not provided, the expectation is that it will likely offer 5X zoom or possibly even more.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Kuo has mentioned this; an earlier Medium post from May had also hinted at the possibility that the smaller Pro model would have increased dimensions, potentially accommodating a periscope zoom system.

Renowned display analyst Ross Young previously hinted that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come equipped with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. While this adjustment may not sit well with those who appreciate Pro features in a smaller form factor, it appears to align with the expanding technological capabilities of these smartphones. Apple’s decision to increase the sizes of these devices brings them in line with their Android counterparts, catering to the evolving demands of tech enthusiasts.
