The brand-new iPhones just came out, and everyone is super excited about them. Apple, the big tech company, showed off their fancy new iPhones on September 12, 2023: the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. These phones are the strongest ones they’ve ever made.
Now, if we talk about the GPS in the iPhone 15, it has lots of cool stuff like GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, and NavIC. It also has a digital compass, Wi-Fi, and cellular features. One special thing is NavIC which was made by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
To make sure our country has great navigation and timing, ISRO set up a system called NavIC. It’s like a team of 7 satellites and some ground stations that work all the time.
Three of these satellites stay still way up high in the sky at 32.5°E, 83°E, and 129.5°E. The other four move around a little bit up there crossing the equator at 55°E and 111.75°E with a tilt of 29° (two satellites in each group).

NavIC gives out two types of help: one for regular people called Standard Position Service (SPS) and another for restricted users called Restricted Service (RS). They both work on different frequencies kind of like different channels on a radio.
NavIC’s reach covers India and stretches about 1500 kilometers past its borders. The signals it sends are super precise making sure users know where they are within 20 meters and get the time right within 50 nanoseconds.
The navigation technology has lots of jobs it can do! It helps with getting around on land, in the air and on water. It’s also handy for services that depend on knowing your location like finding places nearby.
Plus, it’s useful for keeping track of things like checking on resources. Scientists use it for their research and it helps make sure everyone has the right time. In emergencies it can send out alerts to keep people safe

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are super expensive in India, more than anywhere else in the world. In fact you could hop on a plane to Dubai or Vietnam and get the same iPhone for a lower price than what you’d pay in India.
