Apple has announced, as part of the festivities commemorating the company’s 25th anniversary in India, that it is now contributing to the creation of one million developer jobs throughout the country. The festivities started this week with the inauguration of Apple’s first flagship shop in Mumbai, which was followed by the opening of another store in Delhi. Both cities are located in India. According to Apple, the amount of money given to app developers in the nation through the App Store has “more than tripled since 2018.”
“At Apple, our goal is to improve lives and empower people all over the world,” said Tim Cook, the company’s chief executive officer. We are pleased to continue on our long-standing legacy by providing assistance to our customers, investing in the communities where we operate, and working together to achieve a better future with ideas that benefit mankind. India has such a wonderful culture and a tremendous spirit, and we are looking forward to working with you.
Apple established the iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru in 2017, with the goal of assisting developers in taking their applications to the next level and handholding them through the process. To this point, the accelerator has hosted sessions for over 15,000 developers, assisting them in developing their ideas and gaining a competitive advantage in the market.
In 2017, Apple began manufacturing iPhones in India, and the company “supports hundreds of thousands of jobs” in the country through its production processes and its relationships with local component makers. As part of Apple’s promise to be entirely carbon-neutral for the supply chain and products by the year 2030, all active Indian manufacturing partners in the supply chain have pledged to use solely clean energy for their Apple operations. This commitment includes both renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy.
