The removal of the home button and the majority of the top bezel on the iPhone X marked a significant departure from previous Apple designs. This made it possible for the display to extend all the way to the top of the device. This marked the beginning of the end for the older screens with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and 19.5:9 quickly became the preferred number.

This aspect ratio is retained in the currently available iPhone 14 series, and it will also be used in the upcoming iPhone 15. On the other hand, it’s possible that the one after that won’t. An analyst by the name of Ross Young claims that the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will transition to a taller aspect ratio. It is unclear by how much the aspect ratio will change, but it is likely to be either 20:9 or 20.5:9. The diagonals are going to expand slightly, going from 6.1″ and 6.7″ to 6.2X” and 6.8X”
It is important to keep in mind that we are only discussing the Pro models at this time; the vanilla pair will lag behind their upgrades by a few years. Eventually, a new aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate will be added to the Pro versions, with the former arriving this year.

According to Young’s forecasts, after Apple releases the iPhone 16 series, Apple will release the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, which will update the existing Dynamic Island design by moving the Face ID system underneath the display and retaining only a small punch hole for the selfie camera. This will take place after Apple releases the iPhone 16 series. Although this will make it more difficult to get to the Island, it will clear up some vertical space for you.
