Cupertino-based tech giant Apple recently introduced its flagship smartphone series in September, and the company has also introduced the top-notch Apple Watch Ultra 2 with impressive features. Now, everyone is expecting a successor of the smartphone dubbed Watch Ultra 3, but the latest reports are indicating something totally opposite. Apple is rumoured to introduce the iPhone 16 series alongside the Watch Ultra 3. However, recent reports suggest that there won’t be an Ultra variant smartwatch launch at the September 2024 event.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 in Doubts
Renowned Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has conveyed that the company has not initiated the development of the next Apple Watch Ultra, and this signals a concerning situation. Kuo has remarked that the current situation is “unusual,” primarily due to the lengthy development cycle usually associated with Apple’s products.

It’s implied that, at this time last year, work on the Ultra 2 was already in progress. Kuo goes on to suggest that if Apple commences development of the Ultra 3 by December, it becomes highly likely that a new Apple Watch Ultra will arrive in 2024.
Kuo’s analysis hints that the cause for this delay might be Apple’s necessity for extended development time to create “innovative health management features,” guarantee the practicality of new capabilities, and resolve challenges related to Micro LED production.

If the Ultra 3 doesn’t make its debut in 2024, it’s anticipated that shipments of the Ultra series will experience a decline of approximately 20-30% in the coming year when compared to 2023. This, in turn, is expected to result in an overall decrease of about 10% in Apple Watch shipments next year compared to the current year, bringing the total to approximately 35 million units.
