In the ever-evolving world of smartphones, anticipation is building as the rumoured launch date of September 12th or 13th for the iPhone 15 series approaches. However, the latest buzz surrounding Apple’s flagship offering is not just about its impending release but a potential change in nomenclature. According to AppleInsider’s Andrew O’Hara, Apple might be bidding farewell to the iPhone 15 Pro Max and embracing a new ‘Ultra’ moniker for their top-of-the-line model this year.

Beyond this exciting renaming, there are hints of significant distinctions between the iPhone 15 Ultra and the standard iPhone 15 Pro, setting the stage for another game-changing release from the tech giant. Let’s delve into what this shift could mean for Apple enthusiasts and smartphone aficionados alike.

While there were earlier rumours suggesting that the iPhone 15 Ultra might feature 5x or 6x zoom capabilities, O’Hara now suggests that it will have the ability to zoom up to 10x, owing to the inclusion of a periscope telephoto lens. This development appears to draw inspiration from Samsung’s approach, as the Galaxy S23 Ultra also boasts a 10x optical zoom lens.

Here’s a late Friday tidbit I’ve heard for #iPhone15. Multiple sources have told me Apple will indeed use the “iPhone 15 Ultra” monicker for the plus-sized pro phone. This was an early rumor that got backpedaled. Most have since referred to it as iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Samsung’s telephoto lens employs a 10MP sensor, but details on the sensor Apple intends to use for this purpose remain undisclosed. In addition to this, there is another rumour circulating that hints at the primary sensor for the iPhone 15 Ultra possibly being a Sony IMX903 sensor measuring approximately 1 inch.

In addition to its enhanced zooming capabilities, the iPhone 15 Ultra may also feature a larger display. It is speculated that this display will measure 6.7 inches, which is consistent with the size of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This size is already quite substantial and has become familiar to users. Additionally, Apple might opt to maintain this screen size for cost-efficiency reasons.
